Edinburgh branch programme, 2017-2018

Here are the details of the Edinburgh branch programme. All SCA members and friends are very welcome, and we look forward to seeing you.

Events usually take place on the second Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise stated, at The Meeting House, 7 Victoria Terrace, Edinburgh EH1 2JL. Tea & biscuits will be served from 7pm (a voluntary donation is requested) and the talk will begin at 7:30pm. Anyone is welcome to attend our meetings free of charge.

Ednburgh branch dinner . China Red, 30 Grindlay Street, Edinburgh EH3 9AP. (phone 0131-228 8688)

Our annual September dinner to launch the Edinburgh Branch autumn and winter programme will be held at China Red – a very popular restaurant serving an extensive buffet with a difference. We’re sure that all will enjoy it! Guests are welcome. The cost will include Chinese tea and tip, which should be paid for in advance when booking. Other drinks are to be paid for separately – please bring cash, if possible, to cover your costs (no cheques).

Cost: GBP17.50 per person, to include Chinese tea and tip (other drinks to be paid for separately) Deadline for reservations: Friday, 22 September – to enable us to notify the restaurant.

Annie Pritchett-Brown, a 6th-year student at George Watson’s College, will talk about the week she spent as a volunteer, along with a Chinese friend from Beijing, helping out at the orphanage in Hohhot from which she was adopted as a baby. (Note change of day from our usual Tuesday.)

Filmmaker Sitar Rose will show and talk about two short films she made recently in the Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Qinghai Province : one on the efforts to establish Tibetan medicinal plant nurseries, the other on the clinic established in Zaguo by Chungalhamo, a Tibetan student who studied at the RBGE.

David Brough, guest member of staff , School of Arts & Cultures, Newcastle University, will talk about the Friends Ambulance Unit in China, 1941-51. This will be a joint meeting with the Friends Meeting House.
