Edinburgh branch programme, 2017-2018
Here are the details of the Edinburgh branch programme. All SCA members and friends are very welcome, and we look forward to seeing you.
Events usually take place on the second Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise stated, at The Meeting House, 7 Victoria Terrace, Edinburgh EH1 2JL. Tea & biscuits will be served from 7pm (a voluntary donation is requested) and the talk will begin at 7:30pm. Anyone is welcome to attend our meetings free of charge.

David Brough, guest member of staff , School of Arts & Cultures, Newcastle University, will talk about the Friends Ambulance Unit in China, 1941-51. This will be a joint meeting with the Friends Meeting House.

Jiangtao Ma, General Manager, will tell us about the Edinburgh Shenzhen Creative Exchange, established in May 2015. The company’s purpose is to provide entrepreneurs with business support services, working space and connections in Shenzhen.

Neil Sinclair will talk about Marion Young’s Letters from Manchuria. Marion Young went to Manchuria as a missionary in 1935, remaining there for six years, during which she wrote a weekly letter to her parents in Ireland. The letters have now been edited and published in a book by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Neil Sinclair, with a foreword by Douglas Alexander.

The Branch Annual General Meeting will be held at Augustine United Church, George IV Bridge, with tea and coffee served from 10:30am and the AGM beginning at 11am. After a short business meeting, we will be addressed by Melvyn Roffe, Principal of George Watson’s College, on GWC’s links with China. A light buffet will then be served. Further details and to book for lunch will be available at a later date.
