SCA Events - Glasgow

Glasgow branch programme, 2015-2016

The 2015-2016 programme for meetings of the Glasgow Branch of the SCA is given below. All SCA members and friends are very welcome, and we look forward to seeing you.

Glasgow Branch meetings are usually held on the last Tuesday of each month in the Garnethill Multicultural Centre (GMC), 21 Rose Street, Glasgow G3 6RE. Doors open at 7.00pm, tea and biscuits are served from 7.15 pm (cost £1) with talks commencing at 7.30 pm. Events are free to SCA members and £1.50 (£1.00 concession) to non-members.

In addition, 2016 is the 50th anniversary of the SCA's founding in 1966, and we are developing various special events and activities to celebrate this. More details will be provided on this website in due course.

Professor Ian Gow OBE, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow will give a talk on The Scottish Shanghailander Alexander Wylie (1815-1887): Missionary, Man of Letters, Mathematician. Professor Gow was previously Inaugural Principal (Executive President) of the Sino-British College USST Shanghai (2009-2014). From 2003-2007 he was Founding Provost (Executive President) and CEO of the multi-award winning University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China's first independent foreign university campus. Ian Gow has been a pioneer in China Studies and Relations for decades and we are extremely fortunate to have him back in Glasgow.

Roy Petrie, artist & painter and SCA member, will give a talk entitled 'Art in China', following his recent co-operation with Chinese artist both in Wuhan and in Scotland.
